Moel Famau

This week I got to climb Moel Famau, a hill (almost classed as a 'mountain') about 25 minutes away from Chester, over the Welsh border. I would be lying if I said I thoroughly enjoyed this walk- a tonne of annoying flies swarming our heads on the ascent made it almost unbearable for me and I was adamant once I reached a bench 100m from the top that I was going no further! However, my curiosity for the view from the top, as well as some calming time for me sitting on that lone bench, was enough to take myself that last stretch and brace the flies one last time.

The view from the starting point

Sublime colours

My husband and I are one week in to our extended trip to Chester, and having already climbed to two summits and seen many beautiful views, our trip is certainly proving to be filled with adventures!

My first class brother!

My big brother graduated this Wednesday, earning himself a first class honours from DeMontfort University! He has worked so hard for the whole three years, always achieving top grades and receiving great feedback from his tutors. He really deserves this degree and I wish him all the best in the brilliant future he has created for himself, and now for his new wife too!

Wedding Details

Some brides consider the details to be one of the most important elements of their wedding day. The bride at this wedding I shot back in May certainly put a lot of time and effort into making her reception room look like a natural vintage paradise! The room was filled with fresh flowers on each table and arranged beautifully in various pots and vases. There were beautiful vintage props, such as a bicycle, postbox and a collection of frames for the seating chart. The china teacups were positioned perfectly at each place setting and the wedding cake was unlike any I had ever seen before, very fresh and unique looking.
Any future brides looking- get some inspiration from this!

My golden light

I've waited a long time to see my beloved golden light again.

My first breathtaking experience of golden light was waaaay back in September 2010, here, here and here.
I never thought I'd have any hope of experiencing it back in dull, grey England, however I stumbled upon this sighting quite by chance and have been left searching for it ever since.

So to my complete delight, during a jubilee week getaway to Gairloch, in the Highlands of Scotland, my eyes beheld this wondrous sight once again, and may I add, I believe it to be the most glorious of all!

My husband and I spent an unmeasured amount of time sitting on the edge of these rocks, waves lapping up against the ruggedness, looking out to sea and basking in the golden glow enveloping us.

My search no longer continues as I have found the place I know it will be (and want it to be), however my desire to be surrounded by golden light is still burning within me!

Before and After

Haven't done one of these recently!

With all the weddings happening in the last couple of months, (especially my brother's!) I was reminded of my own wedding day which prompted me to take a look back through my wedding photographs. My good friend Mick shot our wedding and gave me the memory card to edit all the photos I wanted. He did a great job and both myself and my husband love our photographs.
We made sure we had lots of couple portraits done at the Preston Temple (where we were sealed together forever). The grounds at the Temple are extremely beautiful, very well kept and provide wonderful photography opportunities, however, there is always one thing in every place that can get in the way and spoil a potentially great photo. In our case, it is this metal rail along some pretty steps. It is simply in the way! I had previously overlooked this photo and considered it to be unusable. There is no other angle to have taken this photo to eliminate the rail being in the way.
So what is to be done?

Aha! Once again, the wonders of Photoshop prove their worth!
Now I know it is not perfect, by no means do I consider myself a Photoshop expert- if you look really closely you can see slight remnants of where the rail used to be, however, it (along with parts of a white light stand positioned behind Peter) has magically vanished from view and made this photograph one that can now proudly be displayed!

I honestly do not know how I managed in my days before Photoshop, in much the same way that I don't know how I existed in photography without my recent new lens!

I love that I LOVE photography :-)

Slioch

On our first day in the Highlands this May and June, we decided to climb one of the Munroes called 'Slioch'. We managed to make it all the way past the ridge before the summit, however after two minutes of climbing the last slope to the summit, we quickly decided not to carry on as it was just too steep and loose under foot- and when you're already around 3000 feet up, an almost vertical ascent with your feet slipping underneath you is not a good feeling! Although it was a bit disappointing to turn back without reaching the summit, it is better to be safe than sorry!

This is as far up as we made it. As you can see on the right, the final slope was extremely steep and continued upwards even steeper to the summit.

The descent provided us with equally beautiful views over the surrounding mountains. You can see just how remote and isolated the area is. We only saw about 4 other people on the whole 11 hour walk.

In the Outwoods

Yesterday my funsized friend Heidi and her little boy took me out for a walk in the Outwoods. The location was so beautiful and the lighting so perfect that it wasn't long before my camera was out for an impromptu photo session!

Such a beautiful smile for my camera while looking at the moo cows

Louie loves his mama

Heidi is a very happy girl as she has just become newly engaged to her man- exciting!
Her ring suits her so well. It is very unique and so perfect for her star-loving self!
