Shooting Barbie

I fancied posting an image from my last term at Uni. This is a digital scan of a negative, which I then edited using digital darkroom tools and added text to. The idea was to document a site, and then alter it in some way. I thought a decapitated barbie doll would do the trick nicely to add a different feel to my chosen site. I played around with the text for a while and eventually arrived at this final piece...

Studio Shoot

A few images from my studio shoot at University this afternoon. This project is about controlling the lighting to create a specific mood. The effect I was going for was a glamorous/sexy feel without looking too much like a catalogue shot. It is still a work in progress with a location shoot to be accomplished next, using a portable flash...stay tuned!

March Temple Trip

The most beautiful day of the year so far and I spent it at the London Temple! Warm sunshine, clear blue skies and colourful flowers, I managed to be outside without a coat and wear my sunglasses on a mid-March morning. That made me happy!

GO WATCH THIS!

PLEEEEEASE go watch this video!!
Photographer Timothy Allen accompanied the film crews of the BBC series Human Planet to capture unique and extreme places and the lifestyle of people living in those areas.
Honestly, if I had the chance to do a shoot like this, I would die and go to heaven! This is where I want to take my photography one day!

You would not believe your eyes...

...if 10 million fireflies
lit up the walls as I fell asleep...

These are those little annoying flies you get in the summertime...they are one of the only things I dislike about warmer weather, I never saw the point in them if they just flutter around in little groups that swarm your head as you walk by....yesterday evening, strolling through the fields, their meaning was made so clear to me, and I shot the evidence! Look how beautiful they look in golden sunlight! They look like little magical fairies dancing around, shining and sparkling in the evening sun. I am very grateful for manual focus that allowed me to capture these minuscule creatures in all their glory yesterday evening.

I decided to have a little play around with lens flare too (and my beloved fisheye). Although these are not the most attractive or organised shots, I am in love with the flare my lens picked up. I am a lover of lens flare, I feel a photograph is enhanced by it, not blemished.

I finished with a shot of the trees overhanging the little stream running through Glenfield, glowing an amazing colour of burnt golden oranges and pale pinks.

Everything looks so much more attractive and welcoming in the sunshine.

March 7 Preview

I found me some golden light...
I look at this photo and all I can think about is this

More to come tomorrow...

Spring

I love this time of year. The sunshine comes back and the flowers open up and everywhere is beautiful. This is like a mini paradise to me. I walk through Castle Gardens on my way to University and now it makes me happy!

I got a feeling...

...woohooooo!.....That March is gonna be a good month! It's crazy how fast time is going, seems like only yesterday I was celebrating the new year, and only last week that I began my University course. Now we're entering the third month of 2011 and I have approximately 5 weeks before the Easter Hols, then that's University year 1 over and done with! Time is ticking!..

Happy 1st March everyone!
