Just sharing some of the cool things I had that made my birthday so special this week...
First, sparkling cupcakes...

And second, a beautiful bunch of bright yellow roses...
The roses were from my fiancĂ©, the cute yellow watering can was a gift from my mother, and the purple ribbon was from my birthday cake. Put them all together and you get this gorgeous flowery still life shot...

I decided to experiment a bit with light when it got darker so I illuminated my roses (now with added purple wildflowers) from the back to create an elongated shadow in the foreground, captured with a long exposure.
These are just two of the cool things I had, there were many more but I wouldn't have room to post it all!
Best birthday EVER.

Photographing junk

A little while ago, I visited the local car junk yard in my village with a friend. I've wanted to photograph there for a while as there is so much interesting stuff stored away there. It made for some gritty, quirky images which I absolutely love. Most people would probably think it is all just dirty junk, but to me, each rusty car engine is a piece of art, an opportunity to make a beautiful image.

The last 2 months

A little while ago I created a post about the last 8 days. I have great need to give an update on that now as things have progressed in the most wonderful way!...

I am engaged! As of last month! Life is grand. Life is more than I ever expected but all I ever wanted.
A friend of mine took our engagement photographs today which I then edited, so credit goes to Mick Howard for these!

It's hard when you're a photographer yourself to entrust somebody else with your own photographs, but Mick has done a brilliant job here and we are both very happy with the results!

All that remains to say is I am in love.
And I have someone that loves me back in exactly the same way.
I am very blessed!

P.S- If anyone is looking for some engagement photos or couple shots, I found some well good locations to shoot at today!

I feel the need to repost my 'Copycats' post from 14 July 2010.

"Don’t you just hate it when you’ve spent a lot of time and effort pondering something over in your mind, then exerting more effort and passion into making the idea a reality, only for someone much less experienced and utterly shameless to rip it out from under your nose and totally disgrace it in an undignified manner?

Well, it has happened to me. I feel absolutely violated, yet completely embarrassed for that person. After months of so-called ‘biting my lip’ and ‘turning the other cheek’, my tolerance of the situation has reached its breaking point and I am no longer sure if my patience can stretch this far. I am almost certain that one more pitiful episode like those already produced will pretty much tip me over the edge…

I usually run by the theory that being emulated is flattering and complimentary, but when it comes to my photography, you don’t mess. I take great pride in it and employ all the time and energy I have in to making it enjoyable not just for me, but for others too. I take time to think about what I am showcasing through my lens, so when someone comes along and steals it, it’s like making a cheap rip-off of me. It’s Primark making an £8 tacky copy of a delicately hand-beaded, beautifully detailed Karen Millen dress.

Photography is my life.
I have already had that messed with enough.

So please, don’t blatantly copy my work. It spoils it for me. It spoils it even more for you."

I would also like to add to this post now. Plagiarism applies to photographs too. Even if it's subtle, it still means the same thing.

I am reposting one of my favourite images I have made. I used it in my portfolio as part of my university interview a year ago. It was taken in early January 2010 so it is one of my older pieces but still a strong favourite too.
